Benson Signs was proud to deliver a full signage package for the updated Wondrous Place gallery at the Museum of Liverpool. This project was particularly close to our hearts, having been based in the city for over 55 years.
This latest installation builds on a longstanding relationship with National Museums Liverpool, for whom we’ve supplied signage across all seven Merseyside-based museums over the last three decades. We were especially pleased to have been awarded this contract following our successful work on the Life on Board gallery at the Maritime Museum in 2020.
Celebrating Liverpool’s Cultural Icons
The newly updated Wondrous Place gallery pays tribute to the city’s rich cultural history. It showcases the stories of Liverpool’s most celebrated entertainers, musicians, actors, sports stars, writers, poets, visual artists, and comedians.
To bring this vision to life, we manufactured and supplied over 600 bespoke signage items, including:
- Digitally printed and laminated vinyl prints, applied to foam board
- Custom wallpapers and large-format graphics
- Direct prints onto a variety of materials
- Flags, flip-books, and interactive display components
- A built-up, shaped rim & return map logo featuring reverse-applied print on a polycarbonate face
Phased Production and Installation
The work was completed in three key phases, in collaboration with the on-site shopfitting team. As the opening deadline approached, our team at Benson Signs worked seven days a week to ensure every detail was completed to the highest standard in time for the public launch on November 26th, 2021.
One of the most striking elements of the installation is located at the entrance to the second-floor gallery. A bold set of built-up letters is framed by 108 three-dimensional display boxes, each celebrating a famous Merseyside-born figure. In our admittedly biased opinion, it’s the showstopper of the space and perfectly sets the tone for an exhibition that truly celebrates the Wondrous Place that is Liverpool.
