We recently celebrated 50 years since Benson Signs was founded. From humble beginnings in a small family garage to our current 50,000 sq. ft. operation in Liverpool, it’s been a journey shaped by craftsmanship, innovation, and long-standing customer relationships.
The company was established in 1969 by Chris Benson, becoming a Limited Company in 1974. We’ve remained under continuous ownership ever since, with a focus on delivering professional, high-quality signage for businesses across the UK.
A Legacy Built on Skill and Innovation
Our foundations are in traditional sign making including hand-painted signage, screen printing, and gilding. While these skills have become increasingly rare in the industry, we’ve made it a point to preserve them. Many are still in use today, now working hand in hand with modern production methods like digital printing, CNC routing, and LED illumination.
This blend of old and new has allowed us to grow steadily, supplying signage to clients of all sizes from small independent shops to major national brands.
Committed to Sustainability
As our business has evolved, we’ve made significant efforts to reduce our environmental impact. We’re proud to be one of the UK’s greenest sign makers, thanks to a range of sustainable practices and investments:
- A 38.5kW solar panel array powers up to 25% of our energy usage
- Our fleet includes electric vans and hybrid vehicles
- We use recycled and recyclable materials wherever possible
- Our grid electricity is sourced from renewable providers
- We’ve earned the Carbon Trust Standard for consistent year-on-year reductions in emissions
- We’ve received multiple awards, including the Liverpool Echo Carbon Champion Award
These steps reflect our ongoing commitment to doing things responsibly and setting the standard for environmentally conscious manufacturing in our industry.
A Message from Chris Benson
“We’ve been employing local people in Liverpool for five decades and are incredibly proud to have reached this milestone. Our longevity is down to professionalism, quality, and the loyalty of both our staff and customers. We wouldn’t be here without them.”
Built to Last
Reaching 50 years in business is no small achievement, especially in an industry that’s changed so dramatically over time. But we’ve never lost sight of what matters. Whether we’re hand-crafting signs or managing large-scale rollouts, we’re proud to help businesses get noticed with signage they can rely on.
We’re grateful to all the people and businesses who have been part of our story so far. And we’re excited for everything still to come.
