We were proud to support the transformation of the former Harvester pub, The Old Trooper, into a modern Costa Coffee Drive Thru in Christleton, Chester, by supplying a full package of external signage.
This was a particularly special project, blending Costa’s strong retail branding with the sensitive refurbishment of a historic building in a beautiful canal-side location. With an outdoor seating area overlooking the Shropshire Union Canal, the setting called for signage that made an impact while still respecting its surroundings. This was a rare and rewarding challenge for our team.
A Site with Heritage and Impact
The first signage drawings were submitted in May 2021, with the newly refurbished store officially opening on 27th March 2023.
The building underwent extensive renovation, including full landscaping, to bring the location in line with Costa Coffee’s brand standards while preserving its historic charm.
We worked closely with the project team to ensure the signage aligned with planning requirements and the natural character of the area.
A Continuing Relationship
Benson Signs has a long-standing relationship with Costa Coffee and was honoured to have supplied the signage for their very first UK Drive Thru, launched in May 2011 at Nottingham’s Castle Marina Retail Park.
It’s a privilege to continue supporting the brand more than a decade later, especially on unique projects like Christleton.
We think the final result looks fantastic and fits beautifully within its scenic setting. We wish the Costa Coffee team all the best with their new store and are proud to have played a role in bringing the project to life.
